Dr. Silvia Caligari is a research fellow at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications at the Polytechnic University of Turin. Currently, Dr. Caligari is participating in an innovative project co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation titled: “Risk Stratification in Brugada Syndrome through AI-enhanced Electrocardiograms“.
Her international education includes a Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics and Decision Sciences at the University of Pavia, in collaboration with the Euler Institute at the University of Italian Switzerland (USI, Lugano). Her thesis, titled “An electro-fluid-structure model for cardiac numerical simulations based on an embedded strategy,” contributes to understanding cardiac dynamics by incorporating electrophysiology, mechanics, and fluid dynamics into a coupled computational model.
Dr. Caligari graduated in Mathematics from the University of Milan, with a thesis focused on “Numerical Simulations of Brugada Syndrome in Three-dimensional Models of Right Ventricular Tissue.” This academic background has provided Dr. Caligari with a solid foundation to explore the complexity of cardiac activity and its main functions.
Her impact in the field is further underscored by the publication of the work titled “Mathematical and numerical modeling of reentrant ventricular arrhythmias in the presence of Brugada syndrome” in the Annals of the University of Iaşi “Alexandru Ioan Cuza,” an academic contribution that represents a significant step in advancing the understanding of ventricular arrhythmias and Brugada syndrome.
In addition to her research activities, Dr. Caligari has been able to integrate her skills through teaching experiences, conducting tutorials in Mathematical Analysis I and Geometry at the Polytechnic University of Milan and leading a Mathematics preparation course at the University of Pavia, in the Department of Nursing Sciences. Furthermore, she has demonstrated a consistent commitment to promoting collaboration and sharing academic knowledge. She has served as the organizer of seminar series at the University of Pavia, dedicated to fostering dialogue among research fellows and young researchers. These initiatives have provided a stimulating environment for the exchange of ideas and exploration of emerging topics in the fields of mathematics and computational sciences.
Dr. Caligari’s academic interests are in biomathematics, with a particular focus on cardiac electrophysiology models and new methods for advanced study of cardiac structure and its pathologies, including artificial intelligence.
